Remember Aaron Swartz? He became an UNPERSON the second he downloaded a bunch of journal on the JSTOR via MIT network. Why? Those damn copyright (sic) extremists of course.

Dr. RMS warned us in February 1997 (https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/right-to-read.html) yet it became the blueprint of what would later be DMCA, or other totalitarian tyrants, sowing the seed for the Anti-GNU/Linux TPM/Secure Boot blunder.

pretty much, yeah. just like facebook with them downloading 120 terabytes of torrents to train an ai that will kill artists. somehow stealing work to then make soemthing that will take away all revenue to that worker is ok, but downloading a copy of a music file to listen at your own home is theft.
if you downloaded 100+TB of books by using company resources and telling employees to commit crimes on the company's behalf, in a conspiracy to put every author out of business. you would be executed in 0.1 nanoseconds.

and those companies that come at you with a solution are of course the cause of the problem in the first place, classic 9-11 move.

preach preach

I agree with you but what I meant to say is i think the whole issue is caused by scrappers, mostly AI companies (not small-timers) both big tech and worldwide which are causing massive traffic on all major social media

All the while companies that run those social medias would like to keep the data to themselves (ie twitter/x blocking scrappers and destroying nitter in the process so they can keep training grok)

the whole situation is so aids, but there will always be underground in which there will be some freedom, always has been
DECENTRALIZE dk on 2025-04-24 17:03 No.553
And then these tech companies will step in as the "savior" from scraping and bots/ the whole dead-internet theory, and posture themselves as the only people who can solve the problem. Creating new walled gardens with "verified-humans" and saying the "regular" internet is just bots now, so just stay on our platform where it is safe. We are entering a dangerous time, we are coming up to a tipping point, where DNS, IP allocation, port forwarding, all of that reshuffled into big techs hands and less decentralized than it currently is (which is barely) Media lobbyists are playing the biggest role in this right now, implementing automated domain blocking, next they will learn about BGP and make backbone carriers amend BGP protocol that allows censorship at the BGP level by blocking routes and ASNs, this is an upcoming threat, mark my words
Anon dk on 2025-04-24 16:50 No.552
>> 550
So in other words the entire internet is just going to come to a screeching halt when they are the biggest scrapers and then use it as an excuse for breakage, well if you just download our "app" it will work. No, fuck you, fuck your app. All of these massive tech companies are are standing on the shoulders of open-source and then they want to add some bullshit on top of it just to get you to cave. Don't do it. Download everything, start making sure that you have offline entertainment as well as offline tools to produce more entertainment. It will only get worse from here, we have been "allowed" to self-host among other things, we need to decentralize all the way down to the PHY layer if we want freedom. Otherwise your ISP could revoke your ability to self-host or any P2P at all at the flip of a switch.

It was thanks to .NET Mono that GNOME became a Free Software-HOSTILE Militant (promoting proprietaries, attacking Dr. RMS).

There has yet to be GNOME-libre which removes ALL MICRO$HAFT corruptions (akin to GNU/Linux-libre)

win7 is FAR from not being able to browse the modern web, just install any competent web browser. iirc firefox esr115, palemoon (active win7 support), librewolf haven't tried it but you can probably run the most recent ff with vxkey

also upscaling only improves quality if you're doing DSP work, or if the decoder is trash. other than that you obviously dont get more quality from a 128kbps mp3 when you upscale it
and at 2MBips it should be the same size as a flac, if it's way less, it likely never even reaches that bitrate

>>496
>Gatekeeping is good
then go give youre money to apple.
linux is trash because of devs that think reading "permission denied." every time you try to enable a screensaver is 'security'
then when you ask for the fix, it's always "'reinstall linux' 'why would you want that?"
If apple is the walled garden, linux is the slave camp
problem? go see if the other slave owners treat you better

It plays videos like if it were a vinyl! it speeds up and slows down all the time! I want it to stay at 2x speed.
Back in IE it ran always smooth as butter. If you choose faster than 2x in IE it skips but that is by designed (updates video like 4 frames a second instead, that's OK)

No matter, have to use broken modern hardware XD (user with windows 7!! ill mail a bomb if you think it's not good! WASAPI has not changed so I use it for my audiophile wishes. Like Fake HI-Res. I practice upscaling at 192000 Hz for CDDA and stuff like that, and use decoders like INT32 for listeing... cool stuff!)

windows isn't the only proprietary software that exists. there's tons, and a lot was made proprietary because of the mindset of "well everyone is closed source, it's obviously to protect the IP"
a better indication would be the license. if it's 5 quadrillion pages written in ancient sanscript then it's obviously done with ill-intent. while if it is plain and simple in 5 pages describing copyright, the company would get in big heat if the program suddenly made connections to suspicious servers and someone noticed that on wireshark

Yes. It's proprietary, there's no source code available, it's literally impossible for anyone but the developer, who likely has dubious intentions, to know what it's doing. Say what you like about open source software, that nobody actually audits most of it, or that the open source model allows for bad actors to infiltrate projects (see xz backdoor), at least there is more transparency than proprietary software. If something like the xz backdoor happened on proprietary software it would probably remain undetected to this day.

It's weird how a lot of Linux users you see online seem to be fine, excited even, about Valve's efforts to improve gaming on Linux. I for one am not excited, if gamers start to use Linux en masse developers will be forced to begin catering to the dumbest computer user demographic on the planet (gamers). Not excited about the way things are trending in the Linux space in general, with people excitedly abandoning all the things that make Linux great, and embracing junk like systemd, flatpaks/snaps/AppImages, wayland, other redhat/freedesktop crap. I see Gentoo and FreeBSD in my future. Gatekeeping and elitism are good things. If you want to do things like play games, there's an operating system for you, it's called Microsoft Windows, go back.

Look, even Dr. RMS has become an UNPERSON thanks to his Software Freedom agendas, since Gulag "absorbs" laid-off MICRO$HAFTers (those who Worship Gates' Letter to Hobbyists and attempt to END Software Freedom)

This is basically a SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit against Public Participation, A.K.A. MICRO$HAFT AstroTurfing) in the Freedom Fighters' (i.e. GNU Users) faces.

The EU banning secure comms is ironic
when I download an mp3 it's theft as if i had taken physical piece of property
when the government downloads MY mp3, it's fighting BAD GUYS in defense of THE CHILDREN for the betterment of our new decomacratic republic of socialist communes : )

Youlube even is shadow deleting many videos that trash the idea of putting backdoors in everything

These two issues are actually related. If a business partner of google, say a record company, doesnt like how we can circumvent their ads and tracking, then they can pull on the YT purse strings to persuade legal action from google. Like what

said.

This emp guy once hosted a podcast called "The State of the Youtube" and these are also pretty good videos. The QRD on the second link is that when pewdiepie got surpassed bin sub count by an indian record label, it symbolized the end of an era.
