Back-end autoswitcher? If it were to nuke the the "manually switch backend" that this instance provides...

Nah, this would make it no different than SommerWeisel's https://invidious.nerdvpn.de instance, causing me to spam that F5 button.
Here, it's a breeze since I just jump backends and call it a day afterwards.

Suggestion: make the backend autoswitcher optional in /preferences (so that we wouldn't have to spam F5)

Hi Fijxu, thank you for everything you do!

I was wondering if you would consider making your Redlib instance use dark theme by default just like your Invidious instance does. I saw some instances do that, so it must be possible. It would also be nice if the Anubis page that shows up sometimes used dark theme too to avoid bright flashes of light.

I'm 99% sure its my fault because im a moron, but anubis doesn't work on brave browser on pc for me (works with firefox, and with brave on a mobile).
It says the check is a success (outputs how much it took, etc) but then refreshes and does the anubis check again infinitely, saying it succeeded every time.

I don't have any adblocks or aggresive cookie blocking enabled (even disabled all adblocks/cookie/fingerprint blocks just to check) so i don't really get why this one browser just doesn't agree with anubis...again, probably something i did, but thought i'd report it.

Worse, the Anubis CAPTCHA page (and the rest of nadeko.net's JS scripts, not just inv's) has NO LICENSE that GNU LibreJS just outright blacklisted it as proprietary non-trivial JavaScript trap

Actually, here's the license: https://inv.nadeko.net/licenses, but mantainer didn't bother putting it in those JS scripts so LibreJS nuked them

Anon us on 2025-03-27 14:38 No.297
Please use another way to block bots, the current one doesn’t understand different versions of Javascript so people who report it here on the guess book are either using Webkit version from Apple, Open Source alternatives of JavaScript and older versions. Anubis can not confirm if you do have a JavaScript and just bugs out. This is a flaw that might get exploited soon if not fix.

Sadly with the captcha it means end of the line for me, on my old phone. (its Windows Phone 8 with IE and JS support seems to be old enough for it not to work). I only use it before sleep for a couple or so videos, so no biggie. I still use nadeko on the pc fine but here I just get the links to pass to yt-dlp.

My isp gives me the same ip if I just ask for a new one so I have to actually wait before bringing the wan interface back up. Quick recap on performance here,
I prefer when INV NADEKO isn't showing options for quality... Or auto-adjusting. Apparently booting the site from Internet Explorer fixes that without a cookie (that is, locating the settings and placing "Small" quality. It skips this step). The load speed is immense like this.

By the way if you boot Gelbooru on Internet Explorer no ads will load because they use modern java script. (Seriously they all fail)
This is not to say I recommend this browser, but considering the last sentence I may now be saying yes
Out of box and no need to install Ad/uBlock, also it will fail to load virus sites meant for Chrome and modern browsers... So the dinosaur IE is the best option automatically, and people do not notice :P :3
Like Linux that you can't also assault with virus, because nobody knows how to or nobody specifically aims their crosshair to this time-space phenomena!

... I started playing with Invidious with a programming language that I never touched on my life which was Crystal and then I added exclusive features that are only available on my instance just to make the instance better for me and everyone else. Same goes with invidious-companion which uses Typescript. I fucking hate javascript, but typescript seems to be a sane version of javascript so developing for it has been pretty cool :3

Now that I added the new captcha to Invidious (anubis) I will contribute to it since I feel there is some missing features that can be improved and added.

By contributing with the software that I use to host everything. If you are interested on Invidious, get into it, play with it and maybe open a pull request to add a feature. When I started hosting Invidious, it was because simply I didn't want to use youtube at all and I wanted to give people from south america a little bit of privacy (since I'm the only one hosting most of the privacy related services for south america, on south america). Then I wanted to scale up my Invidious instance to make it more accessible for everyone (the day Youtube started killing most instances) and I had to get my hands dirty (in a good sense).

Thanks for all the work keeping the site running! :)

Also requesting that something other than mCaptcha be used if possible.
I'm currently having to use an older browser version for technical reasons, and mCaptcha doesn't work on it (had to use browserling as a workaround to be able to post this).
Same issue with CloudFlare's "checking your browser" thing, making it impossible for me to access any site that uses it. :(

I tested the ones recommended by >>248, and both Anubis and whatever xcancel is using work correctly for me, so I'd suggest using one of those.
Of the other ones I can recall, hCaptcha and reCaptcha also work, though the latter probably isn't a good idea for this since it's owned by Google.

P.S. There is a markdown issue on https://nadeko.net/coolsites/ in the "Privacy news" section.

First of all, thank you for providing these services.

Second, if it's possible do not use mCaptcha. It simply does not work on my phone not matter what I've tried. Maybe Anubis (like in GNOME Gitlab) or another captcha that xcancel.com uses.

Add captcha bro. With cookie we don’t mind, please don’t fuck up logged in users with regular watch count. Maybe introduce some legitimacy amount of videos being watched every 24 hours

As long as YouTube allows access with its iOS app (and so long as Apple doesn't collude with YouTube to identify, tag and deanonymize iOS app users) Invidious and the multitude of alternative YouTube clients are probably not going away. Barring Apple/iOS collusion, to fully "control" the iOS app pathway, YouTube would have to force all users to log in which is probably infeasible unless they got really desperate.

Most of the issues stem from regular internal-external changes (not technically the API) and IP blocks. That's why Invidious keeps getting hit yet there's usually a fix in under a day. YouTube has successfully squeezed out less savvy instance hosts, though, so we're only left with 2 or 3 public ones.
